Motorcycle accidents often lead to devastating injuries. Unfortunately, most of the severe injuries in these collisions occur to those riding on the motorcycle. At Paulozzi LPA Injury Lawyers, our Cleveland motorcycle accident lawyers want to discuss a recent hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured. We understand that a combination of a severe injury and a hit-and-run incident can create significant distress for victims.

What happened in this Cleveland motorcycle accident crash?

According to Cleveland Police, a motorcycle crash that took place on the west side of Cleveland led to a severe injury for a motorcyclist. Law enforcement officials say that the incident happened at the corner of West 117th St. and Worthington Avenue around 9:20 p.m. in July. Apparently, the motorcyclist had been struck by another vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. Police also say that the suspect in the case crashed into a nearby house, though they have released no additional information.

Injuries caused by motorcycle crashes can be severe

According to data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, there were 3,582 total motorcycle collisions reported during the latest year across the state. Out of these incidents, there were:

  • 156 fatal crashes
  • 872 suspected serious injury crashes
  • 1,450 minor injury crashes
  • 367 possible injury crashes

When looking at this data, it is clear that a high percentage of all motorcycle crashes result in some sort of injury or fatality for the motorcyclist. The reality is that a motorcyclist has very little protection from the force of a vehicle slamming into it, even if they are wearing a helmet. It is not uncommon for our Cleveland motorcycle accident attorneys to help clients who have sustained:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations or road rash
  • Amputations or crush injuries
  • Internal organ damage
  • Internal bleeding

In general, motorcycle accident cases will be resolved through insurance carriers. However, and a hit-and-run case, such as the motorcycle crash discussed above, securing compensation can become more difficult for victims. Even if the incident does not involve a hit-and-run driver, insurance carriers tend to make the settlement process complicated for motorcycle accident victims. Unfortunately, motorcyclists face an unwarranted bias in these situations, which often clouds liability, even if the motorcyclist was not at fault for the incident.
