We use products all day long. Hundreds of them. Most of us never think twice about the things we buy on the store shelves or online to use or consume. We just assume that they are safe for our families and us. However, there are times when faulty products make it to the shelves of stores and into our homes.

If you look at the website that keeps track of current recalls in the United States, you will probably be surprised. Aside from the things we hear about on the news regularly (exploding batteries, contaminated foods, faulty airbags), there are hundreds of items you were probably not aware of that can cause harm.

Please understand that the last stop for a defective product is a recall. There are many times when faulty products are not recalled, even when they pose a significant danger to consumers. We also know that some dangers that product pose are not thoroughly understood until years or decades after they have been on the market (cigarettes, weed killers, etc.).

There are three basic ways that products become defective and make them harmful to consumers:

1. They have a poor design that somehow makes it through the testing phases.
2. They experience a manufacturing error that alters them from their original design.
3. They are improperly labeled. This can cause major problems for consumers, especially if the instructions are faulty, ingredient lists are incorrect, or hazards and side effects are not labeled.

A negligent company or manufacturer needs to be held accountable for any injuries their defective products cause.
