No one should ever have to worry about being injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver. Unfortunately, distracted driving is becoming more common as technology continually integrates itself into our lives. At Paulozzi LPA Injury Lawyers, Cleveland distracted driving accident attorneys want to discuss where Cleveland ranks among a list of other major cities when it comes to distracted driving. Is our city doing okay, or are there areas where we can still make changes to improve on safety?

Cleveland And Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is incredibly dangerous, and it can lead to severe accidents and injuries. A new study has found that Cleveland ranks 16th for distracted driving among major cities throughout the country. The study, conducted by The Zebra, surveyed thousands of people in 25 cities around the country to understand the top temptations of distracted driving behaviors. In Cleveland, the top five types of distracted driving behaviors were:

  • Texting
  • Reading
  • Picking your nose
  • Eating
  • Changing clothes

As strange, or gross, as some of those behaviors may sound, they are much more common than most people realize. The CDC defines distracted driving in three ways:

  • Visual - taking your eyes off the road
  • Manual - taking your hands off the wheel
  • Cognitive - taking your mind off driving

The CDC also says that if a person is driving at 55 mph and takes their eyes off the road to send or receive a text for about five seconds, they will have driven the entire length of a football field.Distracted driving behaviors can affect those inside traditional passenger vehicles as well as motorcyclists, pedestrians, and bicyclists on the roadway. It is not uncommon for a distracted driving crash to cause the following injuries:
